Gearboxes Again
I've got a lead on a gearbox, but what I need to know is-
What is the OD of the output shaft splines, and how many splines are there on the Mk2 Escort GT gearbox?
Also, does the GT box have an integral bellhousing?
I'm trying to get to the first race meeting.
Cheers,
Nev.

If its a Cortina 1600GT gearbox, then it'll be a type 3, and the information you need is:
o/p shaft is 7/8", 20 splines
Oil seal inner diameter is 30mm.
Type 3 gearboxes have a separable bellhousing.
HTH.

P.S. The above information is applicable to a Type 3 box, and I am not totally sure if this is the box you are asking about or not!! Best to check...

Thanks Ed, I've edited the first post to be a little clearer.
Does anyone have a Mk2 Escort GT 'box they want to sell?

Hi Nev
The gearbox you are referring to is a 'Type 2', which all have integral bellhousings.
If you look in the 2007 Burton Power catalogue or on their website, they list a range of gearboxes with pics which helps with identification.
According to the MK2 Escort Haynes manual, the propshaft has 16 splines.
Goodluck in your hunt for a GT box. I'm not sure if you are new to racing on not but for anyone who is it isn't the end of the world if
you use a standard Type 2 to start with. I doubt many novices would notice the difference or go quicker with a GT box. I guess its similar to the
argument between buying a top spec race engine or building your own!
All the best

Thanks Gavin.
I'm not new to racing, just starting up again after a 20 year layoff.
i've researched the ratios, and it seems that the only real big difference is first gear, and the strength of the box.
I might try for a later Cortina box, But still rare!
Cheers,
Nev.

Can confirm that T2 is 16 splines and integral BH. Wanted to buy a propshaft off of one to fit my T3 box, and the buger wouldnt go on, for precisely
that reason.
Standardisation, anybody?!?
