Track Day Crash Helmet?
I've just had the offer of a free track day at Castle Coombe but realised I haven't got a helmet!
Do they have to comply with any regs for track days? Can I get away with a cheapy one off eBay? The Takachi ones are only £35 and I might be able to
get one by the weekend if I order it now.
Cheers,
Raz

I've never had a helmet checked at a trackday. That said it's the old "how much do you value your head?" argument.

i dont think the argument stands quite as much for a car as it does for a motorcycle, i would say go to a shop and try one on though

As long as it's a crash helmet it is fine... afterall it isn't like you're in a race... is it?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

As long as it has the gold sticker on the back, it's as good as it needs to be. I got mine for £25 at Rufforth auto jumble.
In a car, it's more to stop your head hitting things in the event of a crash - you won't hit the ground like on a bike.

One thing too think about for all who do trackdays.........
The visor.............
Ever had a wheel balancing weight hit you in the clock ? Or maybe a stray wheel nut or other metallic bit off a car........
It can happen, get a decent visor.
I got peppered by bearings from a drive shaft joint once, like been shot with a 12 bore when they strike at 100mph +

When I rode bikes I would have bought the best helmet I could afford but now I just need one so that the marshalls will allow me on the track. I am
not going to get competitive (I say that now ) and I really just want a few laps to see what my car can do.
I agree that I should really try one on for comfort as I have got an XXL sized head and always had a problem getting one in the past.
Cheers,
Raz
