how do i tell if i have a quick rack or not?
hi guys ive just bought a fury r1 and was wondering how i identify what rack it has in it, im used to karts so i want as little wheel turn/lock as
possible for when she hits the track, im going to fit a bigget steering wheel first but was wondering what my options are to minimise the lock
used?

It'll be bout 2 to 2.5 turns lock to lock.
3.5 (ish) is a standard rack.

That's not definitive. It could just be a restricted/shortened rack. I can't remember what the figures are but it really depends on how
much the rack moves with each turn of the steering wheel too.

I found a 2.4 too quick for the road and changed to a 2.8 - surprisingly a big difference in feel. A smaller wheel makes it seem quicker too.

Hi
If it's a genuine 2.4 lock to lock 30% increase in ratio quick rack then the steering arms will move somewhere in the region of 50mm for one
turn of the wheel / pinion shaft.
However there is also a QH rack which Westfield fit as std that is also 2.4 lock to lock but is only 18% increase in ratio but with restricted
movement on the rack bar due to how far the bar was actually machined.
And of course there's the usual cheap rip off ones ones that have had lock stops fitted externally to a STD ratio rack to give 2.4 lock to
lock.
As for ratio i prefer a genuine quick rack from Quaife 1.9 or 2.2 for track use and a 2.4 for road use. And always if possible a 280mm or 290mm Dia
steering wheel usually a MOMO Model 26.

Is your fury a blue one with the le mans bonnet, used to do hillclimbing? I viewed that car a while back if so.
Re the rack, someone mentioned it was too fast for road use...kinda agree, I love the fast steering but in anything other than dry and warm it makes
the car a bit twitchy I find, and harder to correct.

Hi
" I love the fast steering but in anything other than dry and warm it makes the car a bit twitchy I find, and harder to correct. "
That's down to suspension geometry and setup not forgetting the shorter wheelbase of the whole Fury Phoenix Striker setup also.

Hi
Sorry i don't sell em myself. Rally design are the usual place for them at around £115 i think. That's a 2.4 with 30% increase in ratio
over STD.
Quaife no idea these days Ive had a few rack kits still on the shelf from the last batch i brought a few years ago as they are rebuildable into
genuine Ford casings. They do not do the 1.9 anymore but they do still so a 2.2 no idea on cost. There's also GRP 4 product. They do a heavy
duty version at 2.4 30%. But that's around £220. Good quality though.
