Error!! time for a new hobby i think...

just back from testing. It all went pete tong!! Basically I have sorted out the cooling system now, but I met a patch of oil and went straight on at the corner... Straight over the curb and cracked my sump, my car took a hell of a hit and its also leaking gearbox oil. Gonna have the day off work tomorrow to take the engine out and will hopefully be able to weld it back together. Hopefully I aint done too much damage to my box, its a brand new Recon GT!!...gutted :-(

Feel really sorry for you, lock the garage go down the pub and leave it alone untll the weekend, it will all seem better then. Remember it will be worth it in the end.

No matter how much damage to the car the fact you walked away is infinitely more important. Could have been much worse from the sounds of things.

All the fun of Motorsport I'm afraid . Booked a couple of days off work, gonna take the engine out and see what the damage is in the morning. Fortunately I have a mate that is going to help me. Kind of reassuring the amount of mates that offered to help me out the past few weeks...

Do you think the guy that coined the word 'carnage', all those years ago, was a psychic?

Unlucky m8, I really feel for you. At least you had the excitement of thinking you were going to race !!

Don't get too despondent , these things are all part and parcel of the experience!!

See you at Cadwell.

big end bearings have welded themselves to the crankshaft and been rotating inside the conrods. So new shaft and rods are needed... Won't be racing for a while

Ouch!! did you build the engine yourself?? Thats going to be expensive. May be worth picking up an old engine off the bay for the crank and rods. Then give to an engine builder to balance and rebuild the engine.

Then keep your fingers crossed nothing else goes wrong and you get to race !!

You will get there in the end and when you do it'll be worth it!!

Can't really say owt to be honest. He has been very good and helpful with me. It could be caused by any of a number of things. He has a theory, but I don't really know much on the subject so cannot really say. All I do know is I now have a very expensive pile of scrap...

My mates have been amazing though and they are all offering to help and Gary P offered to lend me an engine. I'm going to collect the car and settle up the bill with the engine with the builder then think about where I go from here. I sure as hell cannot afford to have it put right.

I took my mate down with me to see the engine. It has all been built with the correct parts. Unfortunately, it is just one of those things with motorsport. In fairness my engine builder agreed to remove the engine carry out all of the labour involved in repairing the engine FOC, then putting it back in my car and delivering it to Lydden!

Can't really say fairer than that can I. I called him to stop the job as I cannot afford to pay for the new parts. I insisted on taking all my stuff with me while I evaluate where I go from here. When I got to his he had already got me a new crank ground and balanced and a set of conrods. He let me take them with me even though I haven't paid for them yet and said give me the cash when I can.

well I aint happy. When I got the car back it had overheating issues because I had the wrong thermostat housing fitted (as you pointed out at Curborough John). Not what should happen when you throw a lot of money at somebody to build an engine. It appears that the route cause of the problem was a poor design of modified oil pick up pipe was fitted.
