Boxster, I am sure, will be the answer but live against opinion, buy an Elise, not German but beautifully light, stylish and above a non poser car
with simple yet clean design.

As it happens I'm selling my S2 Elise now - but I have an Indy, so not looking for a px

If you're considering a damages repairable then a Boxster might be a better proposition than the ally section/bonded Elise from a repair
perspective (can't imagine either is a good proposition in that respect unless you're a professional with the right knowledge and
equipment).
My choice would be Elise though - just something about them.

As Nick says, I would be very wary of buying a damaged repairable Elise / VX220... the chassis does not lend itself to easy repair (if at all).
I've owned both and they are so different that it's almost impossible to compare.
Elise is great when you're 'in the mood', razor sharp and rapid... complete PITA when you're not.
The Boxster, whilst softer in all areas (except build quality), is an absolute joy whether you want to play in the twisties or just poodle about.
Me? I'd take the Boxster... 3.2S manual of course!

elise over boxster any day. The boxster is a competent car but it just says "I can't afford a 911"

I was musing over this exact choice today, not that it will be happening soon, but I'm reading with interest.

I would have to say i agree with this statement, or thats how i seem to view them, though it would be the better all round car.

Totally disagree with this Clarkson-esque led nonsense that the Boxster is just a poor man's 911.
They are completely different cars for pete's sake! One is mid engined... the other rear engined!
Does that mean that the Jaguar X Series is a poor mans XKR, that the BMW 318 is a poor mans M3, that the Ford Focus is a poor mans GT40, that an Alfa
159 is a poor mans 8C Competitzione, that a carrot is in fact just a poor mans orange!
Absolute complete and utter pish!
The Boxster is what the Boxster is... an incredibly good car that should be judged on it's own merits!

When I had an S2 Elise I went sideways off a roundabout and hit the kerb with O/S rear wheel. The stress cracked the glue in a joint in the chassis
near the suspension mount, and the whole chassis was deemed scrap. I also knackered the front and read clams (tree branches poked holes in both of
them down the drivers side), so it spent 3 months at Hethel where they effectively built a new car around the interior components.

Ok Ok your right you cant say a 318 is a poor mans M3. Imean a 318 is not even a BMW! Real BMW's have 6 cylinders (at least).
.....but thats a whole other argument...
Cheers

Last post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and certainly wasn't aimed at you Bob! Apologies if it came across that way!
Let the banter re-commence...
