does anyone know this car?

Hi folks,

been looking around to see whats avalible in the way of bike engined kit cars,
Well i'll finally have the money from my car sale too buy a kitcar this weekend and this cars really grabbed my attention.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1127055.htm

just wondering if anyone knows the car and can comment on the quality of the build, The built itself looks like an aweful lot of time and effort has been spent on it. not too mention the monies.

only thing that slightly worries me is that its for sale so soon with so few miles.

any information good or bad would be much appreciated,

Also, is it possible to have these cars re-registered on age plates, ie 09 or does it have to remain a Q now?

Gary

you wont go far wrong if you buy that

Oh and it has to remain "q" but dont let that put you off.. tbh its not really a haggling point either with these cars. The advantage of Q is that you only have a visual smoke test at mot time

as this particular car has the zx9r engine and most seem to have the r1 engine,

will there be a noticable difference between the zx9r and r1 engines?

is there any reliability issues etc with the zx9r engine i should be aware of?

As said that is Matt C's car. No dodgy reason for sale (as far as I know!)

It looks well finished / spec'd and with a full cage.

The ZX9 engine will be plenty fast enough for the first few seasons driving. And it gives you an option to upgrade in the future, should you wish too.

Don't worry about the Q plate, you can't see them when you are driving!! (Unless it's ALL GONE WRONG)

Cheers

Mike

130bhp from the zx9 is plenty, you'll pay a premium for an r1's 180bhp.

You can drive it, get used to it, want more power and swap the engine out for a zx12 or r1 in the future if you really need that extra 50bhp!

yeah, i spoke to dvla and asked about applying it to a Q and the man, he said NO.

Hence the question about having it re-registered, as said, its no big deal, i'll put it on my other car instead.

As for the power thing,

just how quick is the zx9r car compared to the zx12r, r1, gsxr1000 etc.

i dont mind paying a premium if its going to serve me well in the long run.
The last thing i want is to buy the car and find i get bored with it quickly,

I've always had reasonably quick cars right back to my first car, A skip brown preped Lotus Sunbeam upto my current car, a 600horsepower Skyline GTR.

That said, i dont want to rush out and buy something with a Turbo'd Hayabusa engine either.

I'm just after a nice balance of power, handling, sound, reliability with a load of FUN throw in for good measure

the difference between 130bhp and 180bhp is about half a second if weight is the same. ZX9R in a 450kg-ish car will get you to 60 in around 4 seconds.

I've got to totally disagree with the power figures above. I'd expect the difference in power between the two to be pretty small - maybe 10 - 15bhp and not the 50bhp quoted. I've seen ZX9R cars giving close to 150bhp in a car and most R1's seem to be around the 155 - 160bhp or so. I doubt you would notice much difference in performance really - probably need a stopwatch to notice it. If it does happen to go bang then a new engine is going to cost a chunk less too - sub £400 quite possible for a ZX9R E.

I'd say go and have a really good look at it and dont worry about it not being an R1

That looks a cracking car for the money

Detailed information here.

Your anecdotal disagreement makes no odds, I was promoting the ZX9R, and had already stated the premium for the R1 engine.

Even if you were comparing the early zx9rs (140ish hp) with later R1s (180ish hp) then you only have half a second faster 0-60 time.

I should have made my point clearer.

I know what you are saying anyway - i always look at the real world figures once the engines are transplanted into a car with less restrictive exhausts, no ram air etc. The difference in power between the 03 and 04 onwards R1 looks big on paper, but real world on the roads i'd say the 03 engine is still the better and faster to drive easily (having driven similar cars with both) - with later engines require more revs to get access to the power.

Too many pub figures sell cars i recon. You wont be disappointed with the ZX9R

Yep that be my baby.

Its as fast as an r1 engined car trust me! Its being sold to fund my next project. I have had plenty of fun with it and the next person who buys will have many more years of fun.

Oh and its the best car around.

I can vouch that there is nothing between an R1 and Matts ZX9 as we have tested it.
It is a very well built car at a bargain price!
