can anyone give me the date that a engine will not require a cat and the stricter emissions test, has it changed from SVA requirements now it is IVA.

pre August 92 I read today so that excludes all Zetecs

Reading the IVA rules against the old SVA the pages are almost identical. For vehicles with effective date between 1 Aug 92 and 31 July 95 the decision for a cat test is based on finding an 'exact match (for the test vehicle) in the analyser database or In-Service Emmisions Book'.
As the IVA tester is not going to find a match for 'our' cars the test defaults to
Non CAT test.
CO<=3.5%.
HC<=1200ppm.
Assuming the same interpretation as in the SVA. No cat for pre 1 Aug 95 engines when transplanted.
(I read it as meaning that if that same silvertop July 95 zetec was being tested in its mondeo home an exact match would be found in the database and a CAT test would be required.)

how does this all work with the iva and mot's after with regards to engine emmitions
say i have a pre 92 doner car and am thinking of using a more modern engine at a later date or during my build that would have a cat fitted to it normaly (ie zetec)
whats the best way to do it
i know at a mot for a normal car its tested on what ever is oldest car or engine but how does it work for kits at the iva and mot's afterwards

whats the best way around it

register the new engine no. to the doner will that work

im not fussed what type of plate fitted to my kit realy
