Who's running a Zetec SE and Type 9??

Hiya folks

Ive got a zetec se (1.7 puma lump) mated to a type 9 box via the bell housing that RWDmotorsports sell. i got the fly wheel drilled and tapped to take the ford 2.0 capri/sierra clutch as recommended. im using the slimmer rs2000 thrust bearing and clutch fork but im still having problems..

when i mate the box to the engine there isnt enough room for the thrust bearing so as i tighten up the bell housing to the engine the clutch is disengaging and the prop shaft is not spinning. Id thought about skimming the fly wheel buy 2-3mm and making a spacer to go between the bell housing and engine block to space things out, but thought id check because i know some of you have got the same set up as me

Just to confirm, what clutches are you guys with zetec se's and type 9's using?

and on another note has the 1.7 got a thicker flywheel than the 1.6 zetec se? that would explain my problems...

Think beaver34 is, you could also talk to Shaw speed (shawspeed.com)who specialise in the Zetec SE

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Hi I was going to fit the se in my STMS but changed my mind as it was going to cost twice as much as rebuilding my crossflow anyway I got a bell housing from shawspeed a spigot bearing and a AP clutch I will check which one tomorrow and let you know

i run a shawspeed bell housing, but with hydro clutch setup, can take you some images of my bell housing to see if it differs from yours?

Building: finished? scratch built book locost with 1700 puma

I have fitted a puma 1700 & type 9 box in my locost. I made my own bellhousing, but if i remember correctly, but not dead certain, (old memory not as good as it was, ) the standard puma pressure plate fingers are straight and not raised and rounded like the pinto, so should give that bit extra clearance. It might be worth going to a freindly parts department with a ruler just to make sure.

good choice of engine! Really happy with mine.

AP cluch

Hi sorry for the delay the clutch plate is an AP racing the number is CP5352-5 DP215s/corg-1.00 These numbers were on the box their was also a number on the plate and this was 51580 I hope this is of some help the reason it became to expensive for me was it needed a different engine management system as the ford one has a sender in gearbox but I hope to get round this problem for my next project. If you have solved this problem would you please let me know. Regards Arthur

yeah your correct, the puma has straight fingers and the pinto has the curved type. ive got them sitting side by side here.

I was a bit concerned about using the original clutch from the puma as i had heard that the clutch movement would only require half the pedal travel to fully operate the clutch making it very awkward to drive. Is this not the case then??

cheers for that part number mate.
is the problem you are referring to the speed sendor on the type 9 and then getting the signal that the ecu needs to get the idle controle to work (to stop the engine cutting out)? there is a way round this if thats what you mean?
