Engine options

Some of you will have read that my pinto is dead. I have been iffered various pintos and still have my eye on one in particular but nit resdy to go ahad yet. By summer I will be ready to change it for a new one, but is another pinto the way to go? I dont want to mess about fitting a zetec so wondered what engine and gear box combinations are straight fit onto each other and subsequently onto my existing prop. Or is a zetec the simplest alternative?

Wiring etc I have no problem with so efi engines are fine. But the simpler the mechanical fit the better.

I know the simple answer is to fit another pinto and i most likely will, just want to make sure i don't miss out on something that could be better!

Zetec for me every time

fits onto the type 9,they are cheap and give
Decent power straight off.
I know its not as straight forward as a pinto to pinto
swap but i am just completing another conversion
for a mate and its not as difficult as you think.

I swapped my pinto to a zetec two years ago.
Andy.

Btw.i have a mint 1600 pinto in my garage,if you
want it.

Thought that would be the case, just wanted to make sure there wasn't some weird and wonderful combination of engine and box that would drop straight in almost as simply as another pinto.

Zetec isn't a straight drop in - the exhaust and inlets are the opposite way round compared to the Pinto - if you've cut holes for a Pinto exhaust, you'll have to fix those somehow. Duratecs are the same way round though, if you want something more modern.

Gotta be Duratec. As mentioned, inlet and exhaust are on the right sides, its only really the bellhousing that's the pain as far as I know.

Hi The Duck

I will have a pinto for sale from my Fury soon - genuine 170bhp at Bogg brothers - we did actually see higher than that on the rollers (200 bhp) but that disturbed me and I write it off as an abberation. The mods to the engine are:

1) big valve head and full tarmac cam - less than 1000 miles on it
2) electronic ignition distributor
3) rocker case top machined flat and breather holes widened to a catch tank
4) engine breather valve replaced for a more free flowing one

It achieved these figures with the following supporting bits
1) twin pair of 45 dellortos, choked and jetted by Dave Bogg himself
2) Fury pinto exhaust, which is a nice 4:1 exhaust, very little back pressure
3) MSD Ignition
4) good fuel (shell optimax)
5) Octane Booster

It's only ever been run on Valvoline racing oil, and is cooled by a twin-fan polo radiator and oil cooler. To further ensure it says cool, the water system is filled with 50% antifreeze and water-wetter.

I live in harrogate, and if you were interested, we could start a conversation.

It also ends up around 30kg lighter than a Pinto set up, according to Pjay.

However, plonking a near identical Pinto in would be a lot cheaper and easier than going to a Duratec.
