Converting from sierra to mk4 golf rear calipers

I seem to remember this is a thing?
Had the pickup on a few track days, brand new rear discs, neither showing much sign of any wear 😅
It's Sierra ones I've got, and looking into the mk4 ones. Found a few threads on here, and other places. Some say the mounting don't match up, some say the golf caliper fits the Sierra carrier, and you use Sierra pads.
I've had Audis, and often find loads of small variations across the ranges, different size rear discs, etc.

So what am I actually looking for? Are all the rear calipers on mk4 golfs all the same? Are they different between poverty spec and GTI? petrol and diesel?
Just don't want to buy the wrong ones. I see some on eBay for £42 a pair, would be a reasonable start to make sure it works

I am also interested in this.

I’ve already sourced a set of hubs and turned them down so the Escort fwd discs fit over them.

I know Westfield rear uprights are different for Golf or Sierra, and the calipers don't mix and match on them

Well they sort of can.

On the westy. With Sierra uprights the golf calipers will mount up and fit. But the caliper will be about 5 or 6mm further away from the centre of the hub. When I had them mounted up I had about 3 to 4 mm of pad overlap but it was only the 'ear' shape of the pads overhanging so very little surface area loss.

Yes you're right there are different versions. If using solid discs you want them off a lower spec mk4. The 1.4/1.6 petrols and the lower spec diesels use the solid disc version. The bigger petrols and tdis use vented.

There are also 2 piston sizes from memory 38 and 41mm.

The calipers are fitted to a load of vag cars but the caliper carriers are all different.

So I'm looking for a pair off a car with solid discs (tbh I never realised there were vented disc rears)
The caliper can sit a little further away I guess, but the carrier located the pads, do everything should stay in line as it currently is.

And the calipers fit right up to the Sierra carriers? No additional hardware required?
I've got an A4 with solid discs, I could look at the ones on there for sizes really

No no no no, they are junk. There are a few of these versions kicking about from RD and compbrake. I had a set and they were dreadful quality and the orientation of them didn't work either.

That I don't know. I used the vw caliper and carrier. I have heard of people using the vw carrier on the Sierra carrier but I've never tried it.

Ah, ok, thanks! For under £50, ill get a pair and see how they look. I knock my bracket needs a little adjustment. Its not quite square and I've noticed the disc has been rubbing the carrier slightly, so needs bent over a tiny bit to square it up. As I said though, at 42 quid or whatever (no idea what brand, but they're new) they will do fine to check how they fit.

As for the RD ones, they're not branded either. And are they priced each? + post +vat? I could have a pair if vw ones for less than the pre post and tax price, and easier to get seal kits for too
