advice on tyres needed
maybe not quite in the right place,but I need some advice on tyres for trackdays I was going to upgrade the brakes to wilwood's but my son made
the observation it's not much good stopping better if it's loosing grip in the corners,at the moment we are running yoko s306's
195x59x15 they are reasonable in wet and dry but always seem to loose grip and spin the car half way round the right hander at the end of Aintrees
railway straight. any advice would be appreciated

i would say that either A539's or AO48's would be your best choice, s306's are mores suited to tintops.

Go for motorsport tyres. Not road legal. Find someone that sells second hand motorsport tyres.
I was given a second hand set of very soft rally tyres intermediates (pirrelis on the back, goodyear on front) by Bill Adair who sells rally tyres.
They're (I'd guess) about 2 seconds a lap better than even good road tyres. You should be able to buy second hand ones for about £15 a
corner.
We've even taken to having a look around the its after motorsport events at Kirkistown to see what tyres get left behind by the big boys when
they're racing! Cheapest tyres going, and usually you can get ones with a fair bit of tread left.

I have these on my trackday wheels:
Indysport T4 soft compound road legal slicks from EARS. I slagged them off when I first got them but that was down to me not treating them correctly
when new and a slipping clutch making matters worse. Being tight I have stuck with them and at 50 quid a corner I think I've had my
money's worth over this season. They are not directional so I've swapped 'em about and they're now just down to the wear
markers after 8 trackdays.
They are not the last word in grip but compared to a road tyre they are brilliant, very predictable when sliding too. The only downside is that 50
quid is actually rather a lot for a remould and being a remould they are a swine to balance. Trust your fitter or lose your fillings. The manufacturer

Toyo 888's are road legal and very good on the track. Even with my rubbish driving they are 5 seconds per minute faster than the A539's I
used to use.

If you want a bit of low speed fun then a soft walled cheap road tyre can be as much fun as a semi-slick such as R888s. I originally used Falken ZE512
road tyres which were great for sliding around Llandow. They over-heated more quickly so shorter sessions were required. The R888s are much more
grippy but you get speed rush rather than a hoon!

May be a bit late Mad............but it doesnt matter what tires u run if the car has a handling problem.
It could be your driving style, set up, even if other tyres give better grip, you will only be going a little faster before the same happens.
Brakes.........the bigger the disc with good calipers at the front,with pads that heat to there best working temp for your use will help whatever
tyres you use.
