Sureterm Insurance rip-off
Bought my insurance through Sureterm. After a bit of haggling got a reasonable deal.
Today the reg number arrived and I rang them with the details - they wanted to charge me another £15 to 'change the policy'. Needless to
say I wasn't pleased and after 'speaking' to several supervisors they eventually dropped the charge. It had never been mentioned
before and wasn't on any of the paperwork.
This is just a straight rip-off which makes a nonsense of the cheaper quote.
If you use Sureterm ask very carefully what extra charges they plan to add once your car is on the road.
Buyer beware!

I don't think £15 is too bad, I mean you are asking them to do more work and they have to pay the staff to do it. My insurance company charges
£21 of a replacement certificate and thats just printing off a sheet of A4 and posting it.

Are you serious?
I am not bothered about the £15 its the principal that they feel they can just add on a charge for something that is essential to allowing me to use
the policy in the first place. If they had told me about it when I first got a quote I wouldn't have taken their policy as it would no longer
have been the cheapest.

Maybe I don't understand, were you asking them to change an existing policy or not? If yes then a charge is reasonable but if the policy was not
yet in force and you were just supplying further details to complete the deal then not.

Agreed - I took cover out with Sureterm about 2 years ago. Was insuring about 1 month before Le Mans so had the dates for my green card to give
them.
They refused to take the dates for the green card when I took the policy out saying "we can only do that when the policy is fully
setup"
I then rang them a week later to give them the details again and they tried to charge me nearly £40 quid in pure administration charges for the
policy. Needless to say I wasn't impressed and argued the toss with them for about half an hour before they relented.

I can relate to this - moved house a couple of months ago, called them to update my address and they wanted £50!!!!
haggled lots (but obviously not good enough) and got it down to 25. I will not be going with them next year.

i'm paying £40 more this year for sureterm than i was with the footman james renewal.
it mysteriously got more expensive when they added legal cover and bits on, and i'm sure the numbers didn't quite add up.
however, the policy includes 3rd party cover to drive other people's cars, and being 22, it's worth a damn sight more to me than the extra
£40.

One of my friends works for sureterm. I will question her about these mysterious charges next time i see her! haha. I'll be going with them next
year, but purely because i can get "mates rates" and will cost tuppence to insure my Indy. Looking at changing my tin top (currently a new
model celica 140) to something a bit more exotic. that however will not be going with sureterm.
has anyone got any comments for me to pass onto my friend?

Insurance companies all over the world are always trying to pull fast ones (as it were), but I guess you get what you pay for as with anything else.

I insured with sureterm too and in my eyes they missold me my policy as the timescale in chich to supply them with a registration number was only14
days from commencing the policy.
I insured it from the day before SVA and failed 1st time then passed 2nd time than had to wait for DVLA to issue the Reg, as you can imagine its not
doable in 14 days.
I was told when taking out the policy that the 14 days was not an issue and that as long a i call them to let them know im not going to be able to
supply one they can give a 30 day extension FOC.
I called to be told they can give me a coupld of days! My 2ns SVA date was 2 weeks after my initial test!
This sent on for a while and i ende dup writing to them to complain.
I praised their service in this thread
the day i took out the policy.
I pointed this out to them in my letter and they took a look at the thread for themselves.
I got a call back to say that they would extend it to 30 days from then and they viewed the thread and said they never knew about LCB let alone how
many potential customers were in one place!
Maybe you should do the same and highlight them to this thread.
