Wilwood front uprights
Anyone used these - any idea on the weight saving?

Are these designed to be compatible with cortina uprights?

That last upright looks interesting - can't believe I haven't spotted them before.
I wonder if they are stronger than the 750kg weight limit of the Raceleda jobbies.

I'd go for the Wilwood items every time.
Pinto/Mustang 2 geometry and sizes are close to Cortina.
Also, the Wilwoods have a ONE piece steering arm, so no dodgy(albeit pretty) welds to hang your life on.
Also, note that the Wilwoods are priced as PAIRS. £125 for the pair with steering arms is very good value.

Incredible value. Do you know if the balljoint tapers are the same as the Cortina upright?

Only problem is it's all steel - so I wonder how much weight would actually be saved against the cortina unit?
PS. The RMD ones are also priced as a pair...

Now, I know everyone will jump on me for this, but.......
Those ally uprights STILL have not got any testing certificates. The problem with ally, is that it ages, and with time will crack and fail, showing a
pronounced granular structure.
Motorsport parts are lifed, and for good reason, as are aero parts.
Yes, some motor manufacturers use alu, but not the same stuff that these items being sold by a couple of people are made of.
As for the tapers, I don't know for sure, but Ford use the same taper universally, as far as I know, with only a couple of exceptions usually of
japanese origin.
If you MUST buy these alu uprights, ask for a copy of the strength test certificates, as well as the metal composition and heat treatment certs. If
you can't get all those bits of paper, then the outcome is entirely up to you.
I've been trying for a long time to get these people producing the alu uprights to act responsibly, and get the uprights properly tested and
certified.
To date, I am unaware of anyone who has done so, including Rally Design. (Mr. Elderfield may wish to show me as being incorrect in his case, which I
would welcome.)
A properly designed alu part for road use will be very bulky, and at least as heavy as a steel item, because of impact and fatigue issues which must
be factored into the part.

I’m with Syd on this one.
Another point for concern is that (to the best of my knowledge) neither retailer of ali uprights manufacture in house.
Paper work only goes so far and you should never trust a sub contractor 100%, if corners can be cut they usually are!!!
The thought of home brew ali uprights scares me, I’d go for the Wilwoods.
