Scewed in for me as well, so thats 50:50 chance of getting it correct from the other posts, but I am sure I am correct as I looked it up last year.

If I put to muh in my BEC the clutch slips so I have it 1/2" over the top level.

I've never known a bike dipstick not to be sat on top and screwed in when checking the oil, including two-stroke gearboxes!

If you didn't screw it in then you wouldn't have to fill it 1/2" over the top level

On threads for me and then up to max plus 250ml if going on track

Crikey, learn something new every day!

Will go home tonight and measure it out properly then (will refer to the Haynes manual as well just to confirm as there is a mixed response!)

Ta

PS Maybe that's why my last engine didn't last too long then?

Another vote for not screwed in. I've worked on Jap bikes for the last 30+ years and that has always been the case.

Just been down to the garage. Haynes bible also confirms that the dipstick should not screw the dipstick back in when measuring the oil level! Luckily I had overfilled it slightly (or so I had thought) for the trackday down at KH last weekend. So all is in order

Thanks for the info!
