VIN Number

for my VIN number, i want to create one based on the following

1st 6 characters LUEVEL - based on the make and model ( Luego Velocity ).

Then i want to include the engine number ( 2 characters, 5 numbers )

and lastly, the date of registration 2008.

Is this sensible? does anyone see an issue with this?

It should be unique seeing as FORD engine numbers are fairly unique...

Ian.

Sounds good to me!! It's all a pig in a poke but you're unlikely with any 17 digit VIN to find that someone has already used it already considering each digit can be one of 26 characters or 10 numbers. So you've got a total number of vin possibilities of 36 to the power of 17!!!

use of 'Date of registration' would be a problem as you need the VIN for SVA which comes before registration.

He'd need a spectacular SVA fail though not to hit 2008!

the 10th digit for a standard VIN is the model year. 8 = 2008. The 9th digit is a check sum based on adding together the numbers (or a number given to each letter) timsed by a number for each location. You can choose to use these or not. For the UK, anything goes so long as it hasn't been used before.
