Mk2 Escort Rack - Technical Question

Hello all,

I am hopeing someone can answer a question for me, unfortunitly no one has been able to answer them...

I am building a kit car from scratch, and I have a few questions to help me with my build

1. What is the total stroke distance of an Mk2 escort rack (Lock to Lock)?

2. What is the thread size at the end of the arms?

3. What is the length of the rack (end to end)?

4. What is the size of the spline section (input)?

If anyone can answer these questions it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Hi Tim

Welcome to the site!

I can answer this one quick rack (recommended) is 2.4 turns lock to lock. Standard rack is 3.5 lock to lock.

Post some details of your build. Most people will be interested and are, in my experience, very helpful!

1. stroke length is 12cm lock to lock. Possibly a bit more as I've got lock stops in.
2. M14
3. sorry can't get a measure with the track rod ends on.
4. Don't know the size but its the same as Sierras.

So, this would give a 2 inch c-factor for this 2.4 rack.

here is a picture of the "expected" outcome

and some build pics

So just to confirm, the stroke is 60mm (each way), with or without stops?

and the thread is m14 fine??

also another questions, the dimensions on the mounting holes (how far apart, x and y direction)

Thanks for your help

The thread is M14 NOT M14 fine - 2mm pitch from memory.
That's the thread on the track rods, not the rack ends. The rack end construction is completely different on a new (quick) rack from rally design compared to a pukka old escort.
The 'sweep' of the rack without limiters from memory was 3.5" but I have very low confidence in that figure ;^)

Well the car isn't a kit as such. The original car was designed and built by a local motor sport guru with the intent for a single make race series. Unfortunitly it didn't go through, so the cars, idea / design was abandoned. I meet the guy through work (i work for toyota) and i bought the body work/engines from him. some of the design I have borrowed from his car, but its mainly my design.
