best budget bike engine
Having spent years ignoring threads about the various merits of various bike engines "the cbrxzy 900/100/1300 is better than the
Hayabirdbusablade thingy" etc.
I find myself wondering about which bike engine to go for - yawn
So all you BEC experts out there - given a very limited budget - say under £500, which engine should i go for ?
Cheers
Mark

Blade or Zx9 should now creep in to that budget and plentiful supply.

Another vote for the ZX9R. Should get one for under £400, never mind £500. Then again you may get a cheap blade exhaust easier if building a se7en!!

Would that include carbs and other necessary bits and pieces do you think?

I sold one for £350 with everything but the ECU and clocks about a year ago - a C-model. Might be better spending a little extra to get an E model as
the gearbox is a bit stronger / better

Thanks for the opinions guys - particularly yours Paul
So is it worth buying a complete bike then selling off the bits I don't need?
Cheers

ZZR1100 or ZX10, more power & torque than the ZX9 & cheaper.
Buy a complete bike you can checkout properly for around £800 & sell the rest on Ebay, you'll get the engine effectively for almost nothing.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Have a look at Fazer 1000 engines - bascially the same as an R1 with a different state of tune, ut they tend to be a far bit cheaper because they
don't have R1 writen on them (some have said it's actually a slightly better BEC option because it brings in the torque lower down the rev
range)

Might be worth thinking along the early blade route - my reason for suggesting this is I know of a number of RGB drivers who are upgrading to class B
from C so very shortly there is going to be a load of exhaust systems, airboxes, engine packs etc on the market
Just a thought

Hello everyone. I'm also in the market for a cheap bike engine to go in a front engined rear drive car project. One of my main worries is oil
surge in cornering. Are any of these engines suitable with unmodified sumps?
Is there an engine that is better than the others in this respect?
Cheers

Simple answer is to fit a baffle plate to the bottom of the engine, along with a small (250ml) overfill of oil.
This link relates to the Yamaha but is equally relevant to many
engines

What about a 1996-98 Honda Super Blackbird, 1137cc, approx 160bhp on carbs, very reliable and 15 cables to wire to start.....it doesn't get
better than this !

Get yourself a blade mate. I've a ZX9 and having had the chance to work on Gavs Blade it's far simpler to get going, a lot less wires and
just seems more solid.

Honda all the way, towering reliability as standard. The previous posters suggestion of the blackbird motor is compeling and i will go for one of them
after sva/first blow up i reckon.
Also early blade engines are way ahead technology wise on the competition and a fair chunk lighter too iirc.
