iva

just read a thread on the iva test, just in the process of starting my build again after about a 3 year gap.(bad move by the look of it)i am useing a 2004 r1 fuel injection motor, radiator ex-up valve and clocks.now i have read that you will need a reverse gear box,do you think it is worth while continuing with the bike engine.or will it prove to costly, and is now a good time to swap?????

As far as I am aware the problems with bike engines and IVA are that a reverse gear is now compulsory and the ever present noise issue which can be solved with a carefully put together exhaust system.

I say go for it as changing over to a car engine will probably cost you just as much, if not more anyway!

I'm building a CEC btw, so my statement has no BEC builder bias

Talk to Russ Bost about a reverse setup.
His one isn't too expensive.

how mutch is not too expensive ??? good job i never got a prop made up otherwise that would have been money down the swanny

Don't forget noise test is now 98dB, i am having trouble getting 101 dB

nitram38 - 1/2/09 at 09:58 AM

Well mine cost £360 from lynxae but Russ's one is at least half that.
The main thing is to get the sprocket and you can source a starter to suit. I think he uses an MR2 one.

I am using a cat from the US (martin keenan sells them too) and a Quill Carbon can.
I have a noise meter ready, but I have not run the engine yet.
I am looking for an exhaust guard.

If it is too loud I plan on getting one of those inserts from cbsonline and shoving it in the tail pipe for sva.

I failed my first SVA due to noise, have just put an airbox on which has won me back around 10dB the induction roar was huge, I have also lagged the bonnet with accoustic foam

Luckily, I will be fitting the original airbox as there are no space limits on my engine.
