You might be able to remove a chassis number plat from a scraped car and attach this to your engine and say the original number rusted off
as viper says it is stamped in, i was thinking of the engine size.

I bought my engine (2.0l pinto) a while ago, when cleaning it up, i realised the engine number has been removed. I bought it off a mate who used it
for buggy racing, so had no need to check the engine number. He hasnt got the phone number off the bloke he bought it off, so i cant find out anything
off him.
What does this mean for SVA as the exhaust doesnt have a cat, and the engine is running twin 45s i doubt it will pass the harder emmisions tests.
Were there any pintos made after 93, or when ever the cutoff date is for the emissions test? If not surely the tester would know that there is no way
that my engine is older than that.
What can i do about it, as i dont want to get another engine as this one has had alot done to it.

Hi,
If I were you I'd try very very hard to find the engine number plate and then reattach it.
You might find it under the bonnet of a similar 1990ish Sierra which you may be able to locate in your local scrapyard...
Ideally buy a scrap engine of a similar type and get a receipt from the scrapyard and then "transfer" all the bits from your existing engine
onto this new engine including the block, crank, heads, camshaft, etc etc.
All hypothetical of course and I take no responsibility for the legal aspects of this!

Isnt the engine number cast with the block? It looked that way anyway, if not how is it attached?
I could always say i had to remove it for some reason, any ideas?
On my pinto the number is stamped into the block, this number is repeated in the chassis number (first or last half)

the engine number on a pinto is not cast into the block it is stamped, mine looks like it was done after a long session in the pub, if i was you what
i would do is go down to your scrappy find the oldest pinto engined car you can make a note of the number, stamp it on your block then write to ford
asking them for proof of age for the sva, lets face it the sva don't care what number is on the engine all they want is proof of age. If you want
an age related plate and currently have your doner log book then just send this off to swansea with the new engine number..

or just SVA it with any old crap engine in it, preferable a similar spec to keep the wiring the same. easier than swapping ancilliiaries when it involves swapping pistons etc.
If you are going to clone an engine number, you could do it off your donor or a scrapyard car, the engine number is the last seven digits of a ford chassis number, that is 2 letters and 5 numbers, the letters give the year and month of manufacture and the letters are purely sequential. I have the decoder if you need it.
you cant just grind one in with a dremel?

Any old block will do in the scrappies,bound to be some old tranny block there.

I take it they won't or can't give an engine number for you to use. So what number goes on the V5 and which body allocates it?
