Not sure if all this has been covered. Have just had a chat with a very helpful chap at VOSA.

If you haven't seen it, V3.2 of IVA is at

Price is still not fixed. Draft price was £540, but is still under discussion.
Seat heights have been dropped from 800mm above ref point to 700mm above ref point to top of headrest (if part of seat)
Requirement dropped for headrest to be part of seat - it can now be seperate but top must still be at least 700mm above ref point.
Pipes/silencers can be external.

Well done that man for sharing bopefully wont need it as forms have now gone to try and get SVA but useful all the same

Still, some interesting things for people building cars (I'm comparing to VSA here, not previous draft of IVA)

- Now must have a horn! (p47)
- Reversing light now mandatory (p142)
- Less stringent requirements for cycle wings (p161-162)

As a general point, how stupid is it that the official manuals will not be available until months (at least) after the new test comes in?

The iva test cost of £500+ smacks a bit!!!

Speaking to the tester at Southampton today, bias bars will need to be welded, with the weld extending along the thread. So you get one chance at getting the brake bias right, and no way of adjusting during SVA

Naaah, you take it to IVA knowing it will fail, when you've got hte brake bias right, you weld it then come back and get a pass.

or do like BenB (I think) who panelled in the bias bar for the test

Yes, but if the test fee is £540, how much will the retest charge be?

i said the test fee still isn't set. we need to set some sort of complaint about the fee. i don't know how many people it would take, but worth a shot?

any ideas?
