need for a steering lock for the MOT
Mr Whippy - 24/2/09 at 08:53 AM

my mates vitesse has no steering lock but his spitfire does, on the falcon would I need one for the MOT, if its first registered in 1977? I was wanting to have the key on the dash too as big bike chain and padlocks the normal thing for that car

my Land Rover, 1975 built (reg 1982) has no steering lock and it was never questioned at any MOT

cheers, my SI obiously never had one either but all I can see is this in the MOT web manual -

quote:

5. Check the presence and security of retaining and locking devices. Note: The inspection is not concerned with the type of locking device, only its presence and security.

5. A retaining or locking device missing or insecure.

which doesn't make it clear at all why some cars wouldn't need it

That reference to retaining or locking devices looks to me like it refers to Nylocs or tab washers and the like, not security devices.

Or possibly it refers to bonnet catches and safety catches?
