V5 Help
Daddylonglegs - 3/3/09 at 08:57 PM

Bought my engine/gearbox and a load of other stuff from the same Sierra, already been stripped by the guy I bought it off (bought it mid 2005).

The question I have is:

He gave me the V5 and I also have the VIN plate and a number plate too. I thought of going down the age-related plate route, but where do I stand from a SORN point-of-view??

Any input would be most welcome.

Cheers guys.

If you have the V5, just sorn it as if the whole car still exists.
My donor has been on sorn for nearly 4 years now and all thats left of it is the chassis plate, hubs, gearbox, driveshafts, engine, steering column and V5.
From what i understand, its the only way to do it if you want age related plates.
DVLA seem to struggle with most things so i think its a bit of a turna blind eye and if you forget to sorn they can make some cash out of you..

I scrapped the donor a few years ago after dvla tried to fine me, registered my car yesterday and the only document relating to the donor was a SORN application for the donor (printed reminder from DVLA) the guy in Chester accepted this as proof of donor... In all honesty it depends on the DVLA centre as paul at chester classes kit-cars as a brand new car albeit age related so no MOT

I've had a sierra on sorn for the last 6/7 years, the only bits i have left of it now is the rear end running gear lol and the V5 somewhere.....

As long as you have the V5 thats all you need for SVA/IVA registration etc for age related stuff.

Thanks guys.

My only concern though is the fact that as far as I know it was never SORN'd by the previous owner and it still has his details on the V5 so I don't want to stir up a Hornet's nest uneccessarily by submitting a SORN declaration

He must of SORN'd it by now... think of all those fines !!

Just change the V5 details to a recent date and your details then it'll never flag anything up....

I suspect the 2 departments never talk to eachother anyway...
