SVA fail chadderton
chris_smith - 20/3/09 at 01:44 PM

had a great morning really is a good experience the drive their and back was amazing cant wait to drive proper, tester was Geoff had a bit of a laugh with him commented on how he liked the car and even drove it several times round the station think this was part of the self centreing test as we didnt do the figure of 8, age of engine meant it was smoke test which it passed on but he was curious to what it read and he said it was well below what i would need for the next step up, noise test read 86db so well below, brake test he was very impressed with, and the weight was an astounding 606kg i had guessed at more like 900kg, so all in all a great day really enjoyed it

now the fail points, nothing major a couple of wires for the fan needed fastening more secure, seat belt anchor points to low, front indicators need moving further forward for angles of visability, reflectors need moving outward for visability again, field of view on o/s mirror needs raising, starter motor lead needs an extra clip, and the one that im stuck on is the fog light doesnt have correct marking, it has `E`mark but tester says it needs an `F` or `B` also, now this foglight is the foglight from a pug 206, so what am i supposed to do with it,

another car there was a taylor phoenix anyone off here?? anyway he was having big problems with overheating, kept dumping water, bike engine, tester ended up abandoning the test

all in all im happy with the fail nothing major to fix and have already booked re-test for the 27th april

thanks to everyone who gave advise etc

chris

Hard luck chris no too bad though, can you remove the pug one tape over the hole and fit an after market one
just for the sva then refit pug one.
we all get worked up over the sva but it really is a pleasant experience

Hard luck, but thats a really good fail, if there is such a thing.

Suspect Pugeot had the proper marking when they first built the cars then went to cheaper suppliers later. Glad I didn't go for one of those like I originally intended to.

can you not turn the fog into a brake light for the test

and fit another fog that meets the spec

thats a shame mate, but you will have no worries passing on the rest of those things by the next test!

How was the drive? As good as you expected? Any suprises?

Thats excellent... Nothin major.
Lok in my archive under Mirrors, there is a copy of the SVA markings for testing the field of view. I failed on this too.

I just used a tape measure and a broom handle and laid it on the road to check the viewpoints etc. Nothing difficult to sort out, but you do need to get it right.

You shoudl be on the road in no time at all.

Well done.

Hi Chris.

I'll say congrats..
Coz although it was a fail, it's about the best fail you could get
All easy fixable, and you know next time it will be a pass..

Well I had better be.....

As far as the fog light,
I would just remove it. and replace it with a bolt on type for the retest.

You can always then change it back after.
