Hi,

Could anyone tell me what the DVLA inspection involves and more importantly do i need to be there in person or will it be ok for my brother to take it for me?

Cheers

I take it you will be going to Elmdon. I went there and the guy just checked the chassis number and had a quick look at the rest to see if there was enough doner parts to qualify for a age related plate, too be honest he did not look very hard and accepted what I told him. Not sure if you have to be there in person to sign anything but other people have people build and register thier cars.
Steve.

MIne was a Q plate and she just checked the chassis number and engine number and that was it.

I think its a quick look at the donor bits as steve said if u want age related.

I wouldnt have thought youd need to be there as you dont need to sign anything unless u want to get the reg and tax there and then which youl be lucky if they do.

They don't do much. I reckon anyone could take it and they wouldn't care. They just check a couple of numbers (typically engine and VIN). In my cases they just did VIN as the engine number meant going under the car and the floor was cold

check my chassis number and engine number, said 'looks like a nice build photocopied some papers and sent me on my way

Mine didn't even have a chassis number as I'd forgotten to put it on.

We had a chat, he went home. Job done!

Mine checked the Engine Number and Chassis number, looked at the paper work.

Commented on "thats a bugger to read the engine number as it's very faint I would have restamped it when it was out" and then did his paper work and left.

Also suggested a good quality Digital photo of the engine number to save hime trying to get his head between the exhaust and the bulkhead.

Very happy went away no probs and got age related.

Mine also said cos it was a bike engine I'd only have to pay motorbike road tax.....

As above. Nottingham, quick look, engine numbers intact, chassis number as agreed, hand over V5 from doner. "Nice car mate", happy driving"

Checked chassis, engine number, and passport for personal I/D check, at home. Took all of 5 mins.
