as regards to corners, front suspension area etc, just want to get some ideas.

I’ve seen people cable tie rubber pipe to steering rack rods, and obviously nut covers all over

I had heard that pipe lagging was now a NoNo, as it is not a permanent, I think that slave cylinder rubbers are now used to cover track rod end and balljoint locknuts, as for the rest, its nutcovers and titanfast.

Im going through this now for my re-test, You have to cover nuts with nut covers and on the steering rack you need to cut the round bit off the nut cover cut it down the centre and put it around the nut and secure with super glue. Thats what the SVA guy told me to do.

I used a piece of plumbing overflow pipe, the stuff you use for toilet overflow. Cut it to cover from the gaiter of the steering rack to the ball joint, cut it down it's length with a knife, and push it over the shaft. Spray it black and looks like it should be there rather than "SVA only". If you have a few suspension nuts and bolts to cover buy a box as they work out cheaper and you can cover those on the rear as well, makes life so much easier if you need to strip it as all the threads are keep clean.

i have seen pipe lagging passed IF it is covered with something like vinyl so it looks as though i was meant to be on there rather than cable tied

I used solid plastic pipe in black - split with angle grinder, then wrapped in self amalgamating tape - we'll have to see if they like it!

I'm going to try using mains electrical shrouds as used on steel wire armoured cable , where the cable meets junction boxes and isolators etc on my track rod end lock nuts . should cover nuts o.k. and also look better than most solutions I've seen . Available in black and red from any electrical wholesalers. Rusty

I used large bore split convoluted tube (wiring harness stuff) at Beverley......no probs.

apart from nut covers ive used rubber hose as used on the water system split down the length and tie wrapped in place.added advantage of not having to paint it
dont know wether mr sva will like it but there doesnt seem to be any way that they all like. i heard they dont like pipe lagging but there again i cant beleive they honestly expect the stuff to stay on after you get the pass certificate.i think ive doubled the weight of the car with tie wrapps and bits of rubber section!

what about pipe lagging and cable ties covered by insulating tape? does that seem perminant?

I went to the local water feature shop and got some 20mm (hozelock I think) water hose. This is bendy and tough. It just slides over steering rods and nuts etc.

For the mudguard supports I used large u trim. For nuts just used nut covers.

For the camber adjusting nut (on my Tiger Cat) I used a hard plastic balljoint cover and cut it down enough to fit, then cut it across to slide it over and used a cable tie to keep it in place.

Other areas such as under dash chassis bars I used pipe lagging which I glued on with contact adhesive then covered in vinyl.

These were areas where the SVA man complimented me on....before failing me on the suspension bush failing!

Retest tomorrow hopefully....

With referance to what Rusty Nuts was reccommeding,It works.If you go into City Electrical Factors(C.E.F as known in the trade)or Newey&Aryes and ask for the longest Swa Gland Boots to fit a 20s or 20gs gland,they will present you with the reqiured.Approx 1.25 for 2.I used them on mine for the track rod ends.They cover the unused thread & locknut.I will post photos tommorrow.
