SVA Re-test - Failed again!

Had my re-test on friday and failed again, failed on noise again managed to get it down from 105db to 101.6db but .6db too much, totally gutted but will get it sorted somehow

Bud, Ive got a load of sound mat that I used to get mine down. Gis a shout and its yours to borrow/buy if you want.

Amongst a few other mods this mat dropped the sound by around 8dba

Found one to borrow. Thats the only way I could be sure to be honest. Took a reading as it was at SVA so I had a benchmark and then played around. Sprayed the inside of the rear arches with stonechip and placed some Dynamat around the inside as well. This dropped it by around 1dba. Bought this mat stuff from an air conditioning place, one sheet of 6mm and one of 10mm. Lined the engine bay and also areas of the cockpit. Also lined the airbox. It certainly did the trick! Dropped it 11dba according to the meter I had and by just over 8dba according to SVA man. To be fair though the meter I was using was analogue and didnt have peak hold, the SVA meter is digital and may have peak hold.

Gis a shout on the usual number.

As all above took me 3 attempts to sort the noise out.

Had all of the engine bay, bonnet nose cone etc lined with carpet - this dropped it from 103 to 96

What is your exhaust packed with? If fibreglass, as is usual, replace it with a basalt packing I think you will find that it will make quite a difference. But don't pack it too tight.

The silencer on the car for SVA is a big silencer off a Volvo, it is part of the MNR supplied SVA kit so not able to repack it

Definitely work on the induction noise as others have said, this accounted for a large chunk when I failed with my BEC. Lots of sound proofing under the bonnet.
