can you cancel your policy on the car and ask them to send you proof of your no claims in writing.

if i can you cancel your policy on the car and ask them to send you proof of your no claims in writing.
will i be able to have my car parked on the street with no insurance?
Swap the policy onto the van and put the for-sale car on as a temporary second vehicle. Most will add a second car on for a max of a month.
D'oh, just re-read your initial post. The fact your car will be uninsured is irrelevent provided it is parked off the road.

i got my van insurance with motor direct. They 'copy' your cars no claims and dont mind it being in use on another vehicle - which is fair
enough, as you can only drive one at once and the ncd shows you are a careful driver.

you have 14 days to cancel as per distance selling rules. They can take a small fee, thats it.
I'd call up and demand to speak to a manager, explain you are about to cancel unless they sort this mess out.
See where you get.
Taking £500 without your permission is shocking, I'd raise merry hell!
dispute the £500 with your bank ! if its not authorised the back will get it back to you ! cancel you insurance in by phone and confirm in writing , get a name and call reference number from the person you speak to! ask for proof of no claim bonus in the next five working days, reinsure with somone else ( I now use a trader policy as it covers everything I have and is cheaper! ) your car can stand on the road as long as its taxed you only need insurance to drive it ! (and by law you only need 3rd party)
