IVA Test

Just a quick question if i design my own chassis and put it thru the IVA test so i need structural reports or the like?

Also if i bought a car removed the body and put another body on will this need to be tested.

Sorry if there is an answer elsewhere but i didn't find anything. Probably not quick answers but an idea would be nice as i was looking at the IVA manual and it didn't specify the need for a structural report

No, they will look at the quality of the welds and the general design and use their experience to judge whether they think it's strong enough.

What do you mean by remove the body? If you are using a car with a 'proper' chassis - spitfire, land rover, Sujuki SJ etc, then you don't need IVA if you don't modify the chassis. You can't cut the top off a monocoque and weld another one on as that's counted as a significant modification. If you get a new OEM spec bodyshell from somewhere (British Heritage for example) then that's also OK without IVA.

If the manual doesn't specify a requirement then there isn't one. There are some general 'in the testers opinion' bits which may be hard for a new design but in general they are pretty sensible at VOSA.

The bodyshell replacement rules are DVLA rules - which are very briefly stated here.
