DVLA AAAAARG
ditchlewis - 30/5/09 at 08:11 AM

just tried to tax my car online, and FAILED

had long chat with a Sweet but simple girl who could not grasp that the car was under 3 years old.

she put me through to VOSA... a load of automated rubbish....

I phoned back and was put through to the complaints line.....

Upshot is if you have a Q plate you cannot use the online service you have to go to the post office.

WHY DID THEY NOT SAY THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE i would not have wasted 40 minutes on the phone and had elevated blood pressure....

Motto - If you have a Q plate got to the post office for your tax disc.

I'm off out now to the post office in the MK Aaaaaaaar a silver lining

Taxed mine online with a Q plate in Jan. reminder said I needed an mot but car was only one year old, it worked first time online and that said no mot required.

Mine never worked online, always had to go to the PO in person

Ditto- couldn't get the online to work for me. Just sent the paperwork recorded delivery to the local DVLA office and got the disc under a week later.....

the local post office said that because the computer system says MOT they cannot tax it either and i will have to go to the DVLA in town and get it taxed..... they are not to blame it's the DVLA

Cant take a day off so i may have to get an mot

Seems like a very common problem !!! Typical DVLA messing it up as usual

On reflection of the last conversation with the DVLA they mentioned that insufficent information on the date of manufacture was provided at registration.

I did not have the V5 for the donor car as it had already been logged as scrapped (i bought it as a runner from the breakers yard) and only had the id plates and chassis number. also the engine was from another car.

Would this be causing a problem?

I will try the DVLA via post route but if not i will have to take the car to a mate and put it through an MOT

such a nice day out there. done a few miles had a dissagreement with the wife's ex husband at least the DVLA are less annoying

i fancy another drive.. i'm going out i think

Just send 'em an MOT exemption form, a tax application form, a cheque and a covering letter. I've also got an e-mail from DVLA Swansea confirming that Q plate cars don't need an MOT for the first 3 years (let me know if you want a copy) which I enclose a copy. Quick cover note:

"please see attached e-mail and find enclosed etc etc"

Only faff is having to take it to the post office to send it recorded so the local office can't "lose" it....

Job's a good'un...

the mot exemption form is that the same as the MAC form or is it something you get from the DVLA.
