Engine number

Can anyone tell me if this will work.
i dont realy want a 'Q' plate, so can i register an 'L' reg rover engine number to a 'G' reg sierra car, then use that as the donor?
Would that then be a 'G' reg once passed the sva?

Also, if you collect all your parts from breakers, and have no proof of purchase, V5, etc, would that then become a 'Q' plate?

You need 2 major parts from your donor car. Major parts being axles, engine, transmission, brakes and steering

So if you use two of those and you have the v5 for the car, you should get an age related plate, same prefix as the donor.

Im not sure about swapping engine numbers, it probably classed as ringing, but im not sure.

But... im not sure what happens when you change engines in a car, i guess you have to tell the dvla of the change. So you could do it that way, tell them you have fitted a rover engine in a sierra, give them the new numbers, then use the engine in your car. Or just use 2 other major components.

I have done this the process greggors84 described. Sent the DVLA the V5 noting a engine number change as I bought an engine from the scrappy and have no documentation and require to prove engine age at SVA time therefore I have changed the engine number and will have a V5 with the correct engine number.

Having said that, the V5 I used is for a car that will take my engine as a direct replacement for it's engine, and if's not been three weeks and I have not yet has the V5 back.

I figaured doing it this way should be fine as there are loads of nova's around that have has GSI 16v engines dropped in and they must all have V5's

I'll post once my V5 comes back, hoepfully letting you know I have had no problems chnaging the engine number.

I fitted a 2L 8 Valve Vauxhall engine in my Sierra, before deciding to not persue the "max power Sierra" idea and build a kit car.

Honest.
