uklee70 - 7/9/09 at 08:54 PM

Hi all
I went to Beverley Dvla today to pay for the road tax and plates
I gave all my receipts and mac to them and they said tbe police contact me to look at the car.
Is this normal and what can I do to speed this up as they said it takes upto 6 weeks

Has anyone got anyone had the same thing at the DVLA

Lee
Car is in for spraying will be done in a week

No, not at all normal.

Next step the crusher then

Not much you can do to speed up the inspection delay except offer to trailer (can't drive it) to the DVLA office for them.

The police certainly used to do the inspections prior to SVA being introduced but it's more common for a DVLA guy/gal to come out these days. Some offices insist you bring the car to them.

The inspection takes about 2mins, all they do it check the VIN plate/stamped number/engine number match your application.

never heard of a police inspection before

Mine had a police inspection. Very common at Beverley at the registration stage.

No need for a trailer though, they'll come to you.

Mine was done within four days of putting the application in.

i've heard of police home inspections as home, thogh not for a while as they are better for us than having to take the car to DVLA, so i didn't think they did them any more...

I'm curious - as garages can do police remedial work on a car, could a garage inspect it and then stamp a letter to say they've done it?

Its just a random thought, but it would be far easier / quicker to pay local garage to pop round at lunch time and view your car.

(or drive it to a pre-booked MOT that didn't take place).

Time to double check your receipts!

Given that some coppers haven't spotted that the moped I was on was deristricted (and thus a motorcycle and I wasn't licenced) how are they going to know about the radius of your wishbones?

Sounds to me like the person at the counter has confused something somewhere

Police check isn't an IVA thing, it's just the DVLA number checking exercise which they used to (and seems Beverly still do) outsource to the police.

Ah to make sure you haven't chopped up a stolen car kind of thing?

I've had two police inspections after sva at beverley, both with humberside police VIB and both took place within a week. No problems and they come to you.

Same here, I had a couple of police inspections when I lived in hessle. Was about 4 years ago, the guy who did them was very friendly and into cars so was more interested in the car than checking the numbers. The first one I had done they actually came and stamped the chassis number on a plate for me to weld on the chassis.

I tried to ask for a police inspection at Manchester (and do it myself!) but they wouldn't entertain me. They refused to admit that anyone does them or that any DVLA centre do home visits either due to halth and safety. It riles me how there's different standards within the DVLA.
Ninehigh, de restriction now noted, what's your address again?

Ninehigh - 12/9/09 at 06:05 AM

Hehe you'll be lucky that moped got stolen years ago!
