I have heard mention of the need to present receipts for parts in the car being presented for test. Is this for the SVA or VRO or both?
I have a huge number of bits that I have aquired over the years and will be using. I have some receipts but no that many. I.e. I think I can find one
for an appropriate engine (2.0 XE Vauxhall) and probably an axle but as far as major components go that's about it!! The rest I have bartered and
swapped for etc and have no receipts!! Is this a big problem pr do I need to get a few friends to write out some receipts!!!
you only need receipts for the major components such as engine, gearbox and axle, maybe a few others just to prove that you didnt pinch anything. you only need them for the chassis inspection that provides your vin number
Could be a bit tricky, do they follow up on receipts? I have 2 Vauxhall 16v engines which I never got receipts for when I bought them. Well, one was a
complete mot failed car (astra 16v) which I got the logbook for but then scrapped and never put the logbook into my name! I have got a receipt for one
of the engines as I bought this from a bigger breaker, so i could use that one I suppose as it has no engine no. on it? I got one gearbox from my
brother's old Sierra road rally car which got scrapped but obviously he didn't give me a receipt! I got 2 more from a breaker in shropshire
but he is a mate of mine and therefore didn't even think to give me a receipt! Again I suppose I could get him to write me one but that seems
dishonest!
As for the axle, perhaps be ok there as I have yet to get that so I'll be able to request a receipt on that one!
Surely I cannot be the only person to have a whole heap of bits which are tricky to remember where they came from!?!?
dont use the one with no engine number on it, i cant see the inspector being impressed! provided the engine number isnt reported stolen then a receipt
shouldnt be essential, afterall what does it really prove and how easy is it to fake? receipts are important for the chassis metal cos this is needed
to prove it is new.

no idea, it might not matter, i think its usually quoted as a requirement for an age related plate. Maybe borrow receipts of someone?
Joel P, I am starting to sound a bit dodgy on these posts!! I hasten to add it is not the engine which doesn't have a number on it!, it is the receipt, the breaker never put the number on the receipt so the receipt could be for any engine as long as it was a 2.0 XE 16v! Rang the DVLA to see if they could confirm that both my engine numbers are clear (not reported stolen) but they said they do not have the facility to check engine numbers, as these are linked to the reg no. Other than that they said the engine no. could be anything!
in that case, just use the receipt with no numbers on. Could it be 'modified'?!
If they cant prove its stolen anyway, then there isnt too
much of a problem!
on a recent thread, someone said they had contacted the vehicle manufacturer to confirm age (in this case for the emmisions laws) and the manuf
apparently said they couldnt link specific numbers to specific cars/bikes reg plates. But the police always seem to know...
I got a letter from Vauxhall telling me the age of my VX engine. It also says what car it was fitted in when new. All I supplied them was the engine
number.

was that the type of car or the registration of the car? I.e astra gte 16v or the actual registration?
Beginning to think that I may take the engine out of my grasstracker and put that in the locost to get it all legal, as that is the engine which I
bought with receipts. The other engine can then go in the grasstracker (it nees a rebuild though! doh!)
