I was thinking the other day, if I want my GTS to be registered with a new plate ('09 or whatever they're changing it to next year - depends
how fast I can move), how do I go about it?
I understand that all parts have to be new except one that can be reconditioned to new (in my case I've rebuilt most of the Zetec engine I'm
using), but new brakes/lines/m-c, chassis, bodywork, fuel tank, prop, steering rack etc. etc. all of which comply to new IVA regs.
But how do I go about emissions? The 1800 Zetec is from a 1993 registered car, but what have people done to get this through? Do I find a cat from
the same or similar sized car and weld it onto some pipework with a can at the back?
I was planning to use an ART bike race can that I've got in the garage and a length of stainless as the regular system, but can ammend the
section between the manifold and end can to accommodate or interchange something for testing time & MOT. I just don't fancy forking out
£100+ for a slimline sports cat when I'm never really gonna use it!
Someone mentioned getting an R1 can as they've got a cat built in, but I can't feasibly see how that can handle emissions from a vehicle
with almost triple the cc and keep in line with modern regs.
Cheers for all your advice!
If you can proove your engine is pre'95 then it doesn't have to have a cat', just meet the lower requirements. Thats all the concern of
VOSA/IVA and not registration anyway.
As for DVLA/registration; For your engine to be classed as your "reconditioned as new" part you'll need a receipt to prove it's
been done. They won't accept "I've rebuilt most of it".

PS. Bike cat' wouldn't work as they aren't big enough to meet the car requirements.
I've got pictures of the stages of rebuild and also receipts for new rings, valves, shells and all other parts I used. opefully this should
suffice for their needs, and if not then I'll kick off nd see whare it gets me!
I've got a letter from Ford stating the engine size, year of manufacture and all associated details, so can prove it's age as well. As
it's a '93 I shouldn't need a cat.
Then all other receipts are kept in a folder to wave at them - think pretty much everything else was new! Just to clarify though, of all the
registration documents they ask you to make declarations of newness for, what are the exact categories?
You'll need forms...
V55/5 to register as new.
V267, declaration of newness (asks for make, model, body type, colour, Vin no, eng no, cc, milage).
V627/1, build up inspection report (asks for origin, etc of chassis, engine, transmission, suspension, axles, ...all I can remember)
