What needs doing to change an engine to a different size/model? DVLA V5 update, and then just notify insurance?
James
Yes, but DVLA might want to inspect.
I take it the engine change is done.

Not complete yet, the last thing I want is DVLA inspections again - they are completely incompetent.
Would an ebay receipt constitute proof?
"DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:
* a receipt for the replacement engine"
James
I recently change my details of my rush for a second time
They do need proof of identity (engine no.) and size.
I was able to send a recipted with the engine number. and a down loaded spec. sheet for size.
1st time I did this, I did not do this, and the DVLA simply contacted me requesting a recipt and/or other means of proof.
I sent a photo of the engine number and a receipt.
I did phone them for advice and were quite helpfull.

Does changing the engine have any impact on the emissions test come MOT time?
I've just swapped from '89 Pinto to a new Blacktop Zetec.
That's a good point

I wrote a covering note with the V5 changes form, saying what I was doing, stating new engine size and number and I included a couple of photos that clearly showed the new engine number. Got sent back changed within a week, I think if you just make an effort to show that what you are doing is legit then they should be fine with it.
i need to get round to doing this after 18 months of paying more tax than i should be. i've only just got round to getting an engineers report from a local bike shop stating what the engine is.
We bought a car fitted with 2 l pinto but V5c it was a 1300 [and had been for the 2 previous owners], because we were selling it to some people
living in France we needed engine and papers to match
.
Sent DVLA the V5 with change details and an explanatory letter they came back with an un changed, re issued V5 saying we needed to tax it and send in
the tax disc number and an engineers report was needed eg RAC AA or letter from garage on headed paper to detail changed engine.
All of this was going to cost money, for a car which wasn't going to be driven on UK roads again so I phoned them up and explained and a very
nice woman said get a letter from garage who had done the MOT.
I phoned the guy who is always helpful and he said he would knock off a note saying when he had Mot'd it he knew it had the new engine in - no
numbers or anything- I'd sent them that in the very firrst letter, anyway a week later and amended V5 returned .
Long story but the point is that the rules do not appear tobe applied equitably and after a bit of bu##ering about you get your document
