Engine number
locobri - 23/10/09 at 09:07 AM

Hiya all... Just looking for a bit of advice here. I've just finished building my 7 and now need to start sorting out all the paperwork. Where on a Crossflow is the engine number? I can see the block casting number (711A) but no stamped number...
VIN number... Where do I get one? can it issued when you visit the DVLA offices?

Hi, you will definately need to have your engine number prior to IVA. If you are going for an age related plate, then you will have the old V5 from your donor vehicle and the engine number will be on that, just stamp the number on and your clear. HTH Ray

Thanks for that guys. It didn't help not getting the paperwork with the car

Will go and have a look now.

Yey, found it. Very faint but it's there.

Many thanks for that

With repsect to the VIN; you can make one up as long as it complies with the rules for length and valid characters.
Alternativel I think DVLA will issue one.

Afraid I can't rememebr the rules, but according to Wiki:

VINs consist of 17 characters which do not include the letters I (i), O (o), or Q (q) (to avoid confusion with numerals 1 and 0).

BTW I did SVA so not sure if the rules haved changed for IVA? Can't see why they would have.

strange thing is if the numbers been filed off, the dvla dont care, they just give you a new one...
had a conversation with them about it once and was told not to use such language when I said 'so you dont care that its stolen?'

Hi Locobri,

You must be just up the road from me. Am on St George/Kingswood border.

Shamefully I didn't know of the club. Do they have a website?

Rich

Edited to say: Yes they do! Just googled it.
And again to say: Are you one of the moderators Bri?

Judging by your figures JB you've been on here longer than me

Cars all done. Will be taking it down to Exeter on a trailer.

On with the paperwork now

Where do I start???

jamesbond007ltk - 24/10/09 at 06:08 PM

Hi Bri,

Any reason you are not going to Avonmouth? I traileres mine from Wales to Avonmouth on my first, then moved it to Bristol and drove it to my retest. Was exciting but rather frightening at the same time!

WRT paperwork I am not sure on the requirements for IVA. For SVA the main thing was proving the age of your engine for emissions. The more complicated part is DVLA registration. Are you goin gfor age related or a Q plate?

Rich

locobri - 24/10/09 at 08:09 PM

I'm not against going to Avonmouth for the test and probably will.

Trailering the car to Exeter is for the show in November

I wouldn't mind an age related plate (T for me) but still trying to get the paperwork from the old car,I have sent off some forms to the DVLA, if not I can live with the'Q' easier emissions testing.

When you drove down for your second test did you need to have trade plates or something?
