Crazy Jay - 19/4/04 at 11:02 AM

Hey,
just wanted to know, when u register ur kitcar you get a Q reg plate, right? But can i change this for a personalised one?
Got a really nice one lined up

Kitlooney1000 - 19/4/04 at 11:08 AM

no. but starting in june the dvla will be able to issue you with a personalised Q plate, but you still get the Q prefix

Crazy Jay - 19/4/04 at 11:13 AM

Aww Shit! Guess i will have to put it on my corsa Cheers for reply

Jay,

you don't necessarily get a Q Plate. If you have V5 from a donor vehicle and have used two major components, you are eligible for an age related plate. This is transferrable, therefore you can get and use a personalised reg. HTH

GREAT!! Cheers hellfire

would sierra rear axle, front uprights and steering column count?

can only ask i guess.....

I understood (but might be wrong) that commonly you had to show engine, gearbox were from a single car with V5 AND you had to have receipts to show the chassis (Steel or bought ready made) was new.

The Build Up form V627/1 doesn't stipulate individual components. All it states is

Axles
Steering Assembly

so on that basis I would say yes, you have two major components from Donor vehicle. If you state diff and propshaft from donor as well, you may have a good argument that you've used three.

Having said that, I'm not a VRO inspector. He may have a different opinion

As a matter of interest I sent my Metro V5 off and added the engine number off the 1.8VVC when I built my Libra. No one worried, so you can probably add the engine and gearbox to the point scoring tally. I'm going to do the same with the 1100 Kent in my son's Velocity. It'll be too late for them to say, "So you had a Sierra with this engine did you?" in a disbelieving voice.
Come to that you could claim you built a Sierra with an R1 engine!!!!

That all I used axels and steering column and got my J30 FOS plate on it

Just finishes it off

see here for info on what's needed for age related plate

Remember if your personal plate has a newer prefix than your donor you wont be able to use it.

Theres a 7 that frequents the Knockhill track days with a reg 1234 BEC Cool!

Numbers have been changed to protect the innocent!

So if DVLA are intending issuing personalised Q plates, that would open up loads of possibilities for the inventive and most of the ideas will be available!

If using two 1s with a mounting screw in the apprpriate place (I know you shouldn't) after the Q is looked at as a U then how about:

Q11ICK
or
Q111VER
or
Q111CHE (If you like that sort of thing)

Kitlooney

Where did you hear about the possibility of individual plates?

Mark H - 17/5/04 at 04:24 PM

It was in one of the kit car mags about 3/4 months ago. The problem is that the personalised Q plate is non transfereable, which is a bit of a swizz.

Unlike big brother to shaft us up the @r$e.

Nick Davison - 18/5/04 at 07:37 AM

I had a chat with the DVLA yesterday, it is something they are looking at and which will provide a facility to change an existing Q plate for another Q plate of your choice!
There is no date or forcast for a decision as yet.

Jeffers_S13 - 26/8/04 at 12:29 PM

Im intending putting the engine and gearbox from a car I own into my 7, it will also use part of the prop aswell. The engine and box are already out and Im presently rebuilding the engine ready. The car currently has another engine and gearbox in it, the car has my personalised plate on it.

So, I have a donor car that is still in use with other bits, is it possible to transfer the plate of the 'donor' car onto the 7 and still use the donor car ? albeit with another plate on it.

I suppose my question is really does the donor car have to be scrapped ? ? ? ?

Anyone confused yet ?!

Thanks

James

Don't want to wee on anyones strawberries, but. I have an age related plate and it clearly states on the V5C that the plate is Non- transferable in the special notes in section 3

andyps - 26/8/04 at 10:36 PM

I think it may be non-transferrable in the sense that you cannot sell it or transfer it to something else, but you can transfer something to the car. Not sure if that is how it relates to "kit cars" but pretty certain that is what hapens if you have an old car (i.e. pre 1963 without reg suffix) and you sell the plate and get allocated an age related plate for that car.
