I want to fix my battery in the passenger footwell. if its securly fixed and covered will it be okay for iva
cheers Paul
No reason why not provided terminals properly protected too.
Thats how i have done mine. I welded two l shaped brackets to hold the battery for sideways movement, cut up on of dads old belts for a retaining strap and have bolted on a plate from floor to the bottom of the scuttle to protect passenger in the event of a crash and also doubles as a foot rest.
i'm thinking of putting mine at the rear in the boot.

OR....... just turn the battery around so the terminals face away from the tank.

I wouldn't want a battery next to me in a bad accident, like a roll-over. Just imagine being badly battered, perhaps hanging from the harness waiting for someone to help you out, and then you feel battery acid dripping onto you...

This is why I don't think turning the terminals around would make any difference
Rescued attachment why me.jpg
my battery's going in the back, its a good 1m away from the fuel tank though...
if its in the back, and you have a proper battery box, with covered terminals etc, i don't see it'll be a problem.
i've also had a really bad fuel leak dripping petrol over my starter motor. never exploded. i'm not saying don't worry about it, as
electrics and petrol don't mix! but i think the huge fireball photo is unlikely
on the m3 i've stripped that had its battery in the back, so not an issue at all, I guess it depends on how much room i've got at the front.

My Merc E class has one in the engine bay AND one in the boot
Do I win
Large M/C battery in the back works well, flipped my Datsun race car 3 times, didn't move (skidoo batttery).
My Jag has the battery in the boot but its below the fuel tank.
well thats my sunday job sorted, battery in the footwell
cheers Paul
