fitting a zetec
lewis - 20/2/10 at 12:45 PM

why do people fit the older engines for the iva then change to zetec ect after surley its eaiser to fit the engine you intend to use from the off set? i have a 95 blacktop zetec that i will be using so i know i need a cat but what are the other issues? oh and the engine was fitted to my donor car with pics (was a 1.6l pinto sapphire)

emissions, stick your pinto in on carbs, pass emissions test, no cat needed. job done

older (pre 1995) engines won't need a cat, also, different emissions targets for mots.

Probably for emissions, it is easier to get through with a older engine.

95 would be a silver top.

you would get a pre 95 zetec through on carbs. I doubt you will get a post 95 zetec through on carbs even if you have a cat. The cat wont last long either.

I dont think they will ware the photo shop idea for long either. That loop hole will soon be pluged.

Doesn't matter what engine came with your donor unless its the one it left the factory with. Its all in the IVA rulebook. Its been covered by most kitcar magazines now as well.

If you use a zetec, you'll need to prove its age otherwise it defaults onto a post 94 CAT test.

I think thats it isnt it.
- Sadly, yo get a post 95 engine through, it has to be EFI to get the emissions target.
- I might be wrong as i dont know what they are or what you can get from a good carb setup but that seams a common belief anyway.

Fortunatly, as a preSVA Q plated car, as far as i know i can do almost anything i like!

But yes, silvertop 91-98, blacktop 98-04 as in understand it.

So how do the likes of gbs sell there zero kit with a NEW 2.0l zetec engine, so there is no way my engine will get through the iva on bike carbs even with a cat then? What am I going to do now then?.

lewis - 20/2/10 at 04:21 PM

To fit the old 1.6l there is no point as exhaust and intake are on opposite sides which means new side panels and bonnet also wasting Money on exhaust, manifold, engine mounts, engine management and other things I have forgotten.

I've got a 1998 Blacktop in my Indy, with Bike Carbs and CAT, got through SVA and MOT, no problem at all

Cool so there is hope for us zeteckers then! What cat did you use? Any pics?
