Engine change and IVA
Tipster69 - 20/2/10 at 07:14 PM

Hi,

Just after some general info for future reference.

If a car passes the IVA test, and goes on age related plates. What happens if you then change the engine at a future date? Is the test invalid?

Thanks in advance.

No, you just need to inform DVLA

Nah, it normal behaviour for builders a few years down the line!

with DVLA latest info is it as easy as swap the engine and send amended documents off for change, as they now seem to be asking for more info as below?

Change to engine and cylinder capacity (engine size)

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

a receipt for the replacement engine
written evidence from the manufacturer
an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

I reckon that as long as the taxation class stays the same or more expensive, they'll be fine about it.
I think the problems will start when changing from a higher taxation class to a lower one, CEC to BEC etc.

They're not going to want one of their cash-cows to be paying less ;(
