Some of you will recall that I bought a kit car with no ID. I then applied for the V5 about the same time that some other blokey tried to sell a
Se7enesque kit with my V5/ID. DVLA eventually looked at all the details, along with the Ebay histories of all involved and sent me the V5. Two days
after I got the V5, I also got a Late Licensing Penalty. I filled-in a statement on the back of the penalty explaining that the date they alledged the
offence took place (November 2009), they had the V5....
They sent me another letter telling me that no further action would be taken.
Out of interest, I checked the MOT database and found 'my' car is MOT'd. So I popped onto askMID and guess what? 'My' car is
also insured!! If the car had been in one piece, I'd be tempted to apply for a tax disc.............
time to get the police involved? That is ringing and your the inocent victim...
Yep, sounds dodgey to me.
I'd do it sooner rather than later too cos if someone gets a speeding ticket in your car's clone, guess who's getting the points and
fine...
Ah but the DVLA waited for the new owner of the 'other' car to apply for the documents and then knocked on his door. They established that
they had the correct car in my garage which is why I got the V5. The DVLA did say that they would confiscate the other car until it's true
identity could be established. If it's details didn't correlate, then they would destroy the car. Whoops.
So I'm sure the other car isn't driving around and if it is, the DVLA have a detailed account of who owns what and where. They've
inspected my car, in bits, and taken loads of piccies of it.
However, as the guy who sold the ringer had just MOTd and presumably insured the car, on paper it's my car that has the MOT and insurance!!
Its interesting "when systems go wrong".
So, who has the numberplates? I guess when the speeding ticket comes through you can just post them a picture of the bits?
FWIW, I enjoy the way that you manage to attract disaster and then write so nicely about it.

A friend of mine has a 58 Transit and just taxed it. The man at the PO wrote the number on the disk and my friend says " You wrote the wrong number on it " PO man says " Not according to log book " Outcome is the van has been on the road with false plates and insured under the wrong number from new, now rectified. The van with the number it had is not taxed or insured according to the check but he never got pulled over while on the road. Dumb luck or what.

It's all about Karma........
If I suck up all the bad luck then everyone else should have a good time. Then they'll be happy so good things should start happening for
me!!
my daily driver had the wrong no on the plates when I bought it.
Had been driving it for 6 months or so when I noticed that when the garage had made the plates up they had used Y instead of V fortunately all the
insurance etc had been done using logbook

So in effect you are the registered keeper/owner if said car and IF he IS driving around in it and getting sppeding/parking fines etc then it's your door they'll be sending the fixed penalty notices to.
