It's fine for the symbols to be adjacent to the telltales:
quote:
Where provided Identification of Controls, Tell-tales and Indicators;
1.
Must be clear so not to cause confusion.
2.
Must be on or as close to the controls, tell-tales and indicators as possible as not to cause confusion.
3.
Must stand out clearly from the background.
It used to be a requirement at SVA for the brake fail warning lamp to shine through the symbol, but I can't find it as an explicit requirement in the IVA manual.
I've got a DD2 lite on my dash - if you look at the large close-up picture 1/4 of the way
down the page you'll see the symbols are located next to the warning lamps.
When I went to see the guys in Southend to order mine, I warned them I would need/want something IVA friendly and they assured me customers had used
these and passed happily.
Question is, should I be worried? I know I'm not that near IVA yet, but it's got me thinking in advance (quite a dangerous thing), should I
be worried? ......
For SVA many people failed for not having the brake warning light not illuminate through symbol. I thought this was still the case with IVA.
Also you need sidelight warning, although the dimming of the instruments is acceptible means of indication.

TTBOMK it is an IVA requirement to have the lights shine thro' the symbols, but I think it very much depends on your tester on the day. I
have to say it seems completely petty to fail for such a minor discrepancy & that may well be the attitude that many testers take. To satisfy IVA
an overlay with the symbols on could be used, I believe these are available from people like CBS
The speedo depicted is aimed at the bike/quad market more than kitcars - there is a very similar unit , the 2859W which Acewell have temporarily
withdrawn to redesign so the lights shine thro' the symbols, should be getting stock of those around the end of April.
