Used for noise - 75% of max power rpm.

I don't think you'd get away with declaring a lower rpm - I'd imagine the inspector would be suspicious of a bike engine.

Mine's 8300rpm - on a 2ltr, so noise testing at just over 6000 = fail One of the inspectors knew the engine, so I'd never have got away with it anyway!

I'm now baffled and bunged to try to get through the retest tomorrow

sorry ti hijack thread, but by how many dB did you fail @ 6000 rpm?

Limit 99 ... measured 105

It was under at 'normal' car engine speeds of around 4500.

I've now stuffed a Jetex dB insert in, heavily . lagged with wire wool, as well as a makeshift partial baffle (big washer!) to block the direct gas ( and hopefully sound) path. Runs fine and drives fine at light/medium throttle, and will hopefully be enough just to get through. It's not a long term solution tho'...
