Hi all, my formual 27 is booked in for its MOT on Monday however noticed it has not got a reverse light??? its ford g/box..
So I looked at the past MOT via the dvla website and never failed becasue of not having a reverse light can anyone explain....
Thanks
Jools
Reverse light is not part of test
If it has a reverse light then it has to work. If it does not have one ( like mine ) then it does not need one to pass.

I'm pretty sure they are not covered in the MOT manual, other than if fitted must work as per any other auxillary lights, spots driving etc.
My e type doesn't have them, and it passed 3 weeks ago.
not needed for mot
Thanks for your quick replies, I have one more then on the engine emmisions...
The car is a 1997 with a 1983 x-flow engine will the engine need to meet emmisions as the car is after 1995 but the engine is not??
Thanks again
Jools
No, emissions taken on whatever is oldest, car or engine.
I had a 2001 zetec in my 72 MGB, visual smoke check only.

Reverse light not needed and doesn't have to work even if fitted according to the MOT tester that posted last when this was discussed
previously.

Same as front fogs, not a testable item so doesn't matter whether fitted or not or working or not.
Yes I have a reverse light that is not connected, been to a fair few stations with the car and never had a problem.
Thanks for all your replies I thought I was in for a long weekend getting it ready.
Cheers
Jools
