I'm told it is no longer legal to drive your locost to an MOT station (to do emissions etc.) before IVA, even if you have insured and told your
insurer. Is this true?
Not sure it's ever been 100% legal as a pre MOT is not an essential trip?
You could trailer it to the MOT, or just drive it like many people do.
Ed.
its never been allowed, but its a grey area with reference to the wording that allows you to drive to the IVA test centre which states something along
the lines of "you can drive to and from a test centre for the sole purpose of completeing a prearranged mandatory inspection".
It just means IVA, but you can obviously apply it to an MOT test too.
As above... it's never been legal to do what you suggest.
not sure about the legal - but regarding insurace I asked my insurance if I was insured to drive to a pre booked MOT before my SVA they said yes.

This all stems from the fact that at one time you had to have the car MOT'd before SVA and could drive it to the testing station (it was amazing
how many kits failed first time, sometimes for something as simple as forgetting to fit a bulb, and having to drive back for a retest
) as said, this
no longer applies with the introduction of IVA.
You used to be allowed to drive to a MOT Station / Garage after you had failed an SVA to have the necessary repairs carried out.
After I failed my SVA, I had appointments booked in at my friends MOT station and was therefore allowed to drive there
I thought you could drive to a pre-MOT to get the lights and wheels aligned and the car checked for roadworthiness before driving to the IVA
centre?
How else would you do this? Not many people have a light pattern transfer on the wall of the garage, or wheel alignment lasers.
Whilst you can legally drive to a PRE-BOOKED MOT, you cannot (and never could) drive to a PRE-MOT.

Won't bother with a PRE - MOT if you going to IVA. If you do that you enter the MOT system and lose out of the 3 year of no MOT after IVA......
Would you really feel right driving a car that you couldn't be 100% sure is safe any way?
Could you get someone to do an MOT for you with out registering it or printing certificates? or is it illegal?
