help needed with design weight question
stuleah - 30/6/10 at 08:24 PM

i have filled out all the iva form except this question, i'm not quite sure what to put.
Is it just the weight of the front axle, rear axle and then the total weight and does it need someone sat in it for the weights?

Done a search but can't find the answer i'm looking for.

The design weights are supposedly the weight of the car plus passengers and luggage. You will be looking at 450kg rear / 500kg front and 950kg total for a typical se7en with car engine

Design wieght is not the actual weights over the axles but the maximum weights over the axles that car is designed to cope with
At IVA they weigh the axles then add 75kg per seat and 25kg lugage, this figure is also used in the strange calculation that go on when brake testing

Just remember that these weights end up on the V5 as well, so bee realistic but don't overdo it due to the brake testing calcs as this will make it harder to pass the IVA. As the numbers end up on the V5 you could be booked for overloading the car by MR plod if your to conservative..

When i went through it first time this was one of my failure points. but 450 500 should do it mine came in just under that. err on the side of caution for me it was a straight fail as calculated weight came in too high

The car is mid engined and weighs 780kg with no one in it.
would you put 980kg total with 530 rear 450 front and see what happens.
I take it there is no correct way of getting this exactly right.
