Yes or no

in a word nope.when your car passes sva then you got 3 more years before you need a m o t ....cheers

i think this too depends on the area actually, im sure someone said the inspector insisted on an MOT.

as ever, get a conversation going with the local man in charge, thats the only way to avoid a diabolical liberty...

hey lightning that aint basil fawltys hotel in the back ground on your sig pic is it?....lol

hey just a thought lightning m8, you can drive your car to get it mot,d with no plates on her legaly too......so if you want a nice spin in her book it in and enjoy the blast to and from the garage. i did..lol twice...

Firstly... Yes my house looks the spitting image of Fawlty Towers. If I shaved off the beard and left the tash I would probably look like Mr Fawlty. I'm 6'4" too.
By the way Sibble says hi.

Secondly I had considered having a blast to the MOT station., but I have already done this slightly illegally to the annoyance of the neighbours..

genreally an MOT is thought a good idea cos

1. it s a chance to sahke down the car, you can go for as many retests as you like

2. The police may not understand the rules, and not understand why you cant show an MOT on a car with an 'old' registration. You may be right, but will ahve a lot of hassle proving you are.

3. As above, but Doris at the post office may insist that you show an mot.

Im getting one for the avoidance of doubt. I think in the spirit of the law a car should have an MOT cos most kit cars are not exactly new are they?

My local DVLA (now VOSA) man said that I needed an MOT - I don't agree with him, but as I was planning to get one anyway it really doesn't matter!

Having an MOT gives me a chance to take the car on the road for 2 or 3 miles to and from the test station. It's also a 'tame' MOT station, where I know the owner - he won't pass anything that isn't up to standard, but I know he won't take me for a ride or feed me bullsh*t.

I'll feel a bit more confident about the 90 mile round trip to the SVA centre once that's done!

In answer to my earlier question ....Yes it does need an MOT. If the car has Q or age relatred plate. Checked with Swansea. Caliing in tomorrow in the haope to get registration after MOT in morning. Should pass as done 15miles since SVA.

We must be driving ours around against the law then........

As Joel said, it depends on your local DVLA.

Baldrick - 3/8/04 at 02:23 PM

Seems like every application is different - even to the same DVLA office.. I had to get a police inspection before the DVLA would issue a chassis number which I needed before I could get my SVA test booked - this induced about 2 months of delay (which, to be fair, I needed to get finished properly). I did not need an MOT and now do not need one until the car is three years old. I got an age related 78 plate ('S' Suffix)

I think TotalKitCar.com, and Which Kit? magazine both have it in writing from the DVLA head office that an MOT is not needed for the first three years. I don't have one, and it is not specified on the list of required documents to register a kitcar...

RoadkillUK - 3/8/04 at 06:40 PM

Just to add to the confusion, I have a letter in front of me right now in black and white from the Leeds DVLA office telling me that along with my MAC, V5 etc. I must also have an MOT in order to register my vehicle.

Lightning - 3/8/04 at 07:10 PM

Just to add to the confusion still....AFTER going for MOT this morning, I get a call from Exeter DVLA saying "sorry you DONT need an MOT"
How pissed was I?
Complained and was told to write in to get the MOT fee refunded.
Anyway, the good news is that I went to Exeter and now have reg plate(age related) and tax.
I have done 60miles this evening around Torbay in the sunshine,,,Brill...
