I know its probably been covered before, but this is my last job before my IVA.
I know it has to be 17 Digits long using letters and numbers, but I just need to know if there is any kind of order they need to be in and if there
are any letters I can't use. (i.e I and O as they can be mistaken for 1 and 0)
Thanks
Steve
Contact your local DVLA office. Some allow you to compose your own, others want to issue one, as mine did.
If you Google somthing like 'VIN standard'
you will learn more.
wot my local office said:
VIN
It's been covered many times befor as a search would reveal.
However I must say that that letter is the most sensible and comprehensible piece of advice probably ever to come from the DVLA and as such should be
heeded (and framed) as it actualy relays the policy correctly, use it
^^^^ except for the fact that some DVLA offices make up their own rules and will insist on the full 17 character VIN.
Maybe give MK a call, when i picked up my bodywork recently I asked about chassis numbers/plates and they had some pre printed sequential stickers for
chassis plates and then can use the number to have stamped onto the chassis rail. Might be easier.

Thanks all for your answers.
Got sorted today though, got off work early and went over to Sheffield DVLA. Very helpful, said i could make my own up with no problems or they could
issue me one there and then, which I did, took 15mins very impressed with service.
Cheers
Steve
