Age Related Plate
pdfbt40 - 10/9/10 at 10:27 PM

The DVLA Internet guidance is a bit vague, for example what parts form the axle or steering on a car with IRS and sub-frames? Don't even mention older Lotus where what I call a chassis isn't, the registration in on the non-load bearing tub/body!

So thoughts or even experience, on uprating most parts on a type approved 'donor' such as engine, suspension, gearbox, steering and using the original parts in a kit car build.

Can you claim an age related registration for the kit car with the donor still on the road?

I always like to be prepared when facing 'THEM' even when I (working) was one of THEM meeting another THEM!

"The DVLA Internet guidance is a bit vague,"
Thats so they can interepret it as they see fit

No.

Do a bit of search , its covered many times before

I beleive the age related plate system, gives you the exact reg of the donor car (unless you later transfer it)

you don't get the donor's reg.

you get an an unissued reg from the same year

not sure if you can register on an already bought private plate to avoid transfer fees

A bought plate will have paid fees already, if its new from dvla is part of the price, if its on retention, you would have paid the transfer fee when you put it on retention.

Im sure ive seen cars with the exact donor reg on though. Maybe thats something that used to be done?

You state On the forms what parts you have used from the donor vehicle, they check it, but in reality, Vosa don't care and Dvla don't have the skills to say for certain wether they are or not.
Rear axle is diff and shafts, suspension includes hubs, steering is rack and column then it's engine and transmission.
It's mainly the bec boys who have to be a bit creative

It used to done before SVA, as well as some dodgy V5 info, then there was an amnesty where you could transfer cars that had been previouslly registered to give them proper V5's so any vehicle now on the same Reg as the donor is illegal.
You get a new Reg number from Dvla then you can put a plate on it that is on retention but not at the first time of registration

Thanks for the quick replies.

ReMan, I did use search, but it wouldn't search on more than one word, and I tried both boolian and algebraic logic.
Can you post the links to a few of the many threads you mention?

Certainly the impression I got from the guidance is that you can now only retain a registration on a reshelled or re-panelled vehicle. Age related plate is an un-allocated number with the same year index.

The donor car registration seems a similar conundrum even if you scrap the body. If you do that, they want the V5 to stop ringing, but you need it for the DVLA registration. DOH.

The only advice I've seen on that is to cut out the VIN numbers (including the secret hidden one ?) so the body is just scrap metal.

My car got the donor reg at Sheffield and a friend got donor reg at Nottingham. It's all a raffle.
