I have always though the introduction of the the SVA was over kill -- yes we need something more than an MOT but I always though the regs truly
draconian, but a car I followed on saturday changed my mind.
Ford Model A 2 seater replica Hot Rod -- just tiny rear wings that left 6 inches of tyre exposed and no fronts the indicators and stop lamps were
dim tiny blue/green diamonds. that could barely be seen in day light.

Or the mock-Monster Truck I saw on Sunday (A Toyota Pickup with huge wheels, high suspension, etc.) Running boards 4 foot from the floor!
101 different ways of failing the SVA!

normal problem, one rule for them, another rule for us.....
Nothing to stop them passing SVA then modifying, like we all do !
When I was in the Norwich SVA centre last week I saw a notice that said "Are you aware that VOSA are allowed to stop your vehicle and inspect
it?"
I wonder how these vehicles would cope in a spot-check?
...mind you, I think they were really talking about commercial vehicles, but what the hell!
David
You can be stopped at any time and your car can be inspected according to the "Construction and Use Regulations" as referenced in the SVA
inspection manual.
I believe you are liable to a fine if you are not complying and or impound of your vehicle. This is why the police can pull you for a
headlight/taillight/baldy etc
Cheers
And why the police are now stopping boy wonders with boogie boxes and tinted windows at regular roadside spot checks. Depending on the severity of
tint (or lack of visibility) can either tell u to remove it or if really bad can stop u driving any further and arrange to have it towed/impounded
till yer glass is clear again. Har har har
Shug.
I'd like to see a plod who could state the angle of view requirement for a front sidelight ! Or any light for that matter. Last plod I met
couldn't even fill out a parking ticket without assistance from his colleague and even then he got the road name wrong.
They pick on boy racers because they're different, same as motorcyslists. Only reason they don't pick on Se7ens is because they
haven't got a clue what to stop us for. I'm sure our turn will come in time.
while i was at norwich the vosa had thier new cars there ,apparently the camera inside reads your number plate and within seconds they can tell everything about it including tax where and when it was moted aswell as doing the speed camera bit aswell! big brother knows all(and im not talking about some cruddy reality show either)
