IVA Fail at Norwich
irvined - 14/10/10 at 10:53 AM

Chaps,

I took the fury to Norwich this week for its IVA test, it failed on a few things, funnily enough, none of the ones I was worried about (Noise, emissions, forward visibility etc)

Most of them are easy to sort out, there was one that I was really not expecting though, and that was the arches, they don't cover the tyre enough on the fury. They were very close, and I'd never bothered to check them, so my own fault really.

The list was:

On the whole I'm pretty happy with the result, testers were very fair and gave clear advice on how to solve the issues, they were both petrolheads and wanted the car to pass as much as I did.

Fingers crossed I will get the car sorted out and back there hopefully in a couple of weeks for a retest.

A couple of things were marginal - rear visibility was the biggest one, I'd positioned them so i could see what I'd want to see behind me, but the lines were really borderline. With a bit of adjustment we got it through though. Also its worth making sure you've flatted down any edges from the grp.

Not a bad fail then. All fixable with no 'finger in the wind' solutions needed.
You should have it on the road for christmas then! Perfect time of year for a lightweight open top car!

Thats not a bad fail at all. What was the problem with the rear arches? They look ok to me in your avatar.

Sounds like a nice simple short list of things to sort.

You could pop some narrower wheels on for the re-test. I had some build wheels for that (5 1/2 inch Orion, or Sierra ones). The only issue is for the tyres to be appropriately rated. Also you might need to change the speedo calibration unless they are smaller or the same size.

Didn't think you needed a tell tale for side lights, thought the dash illumination was enough? or is different rulings for "normal" clocks?

Didn't he say his Fury Mark - not the 7?

Looking forward to another Fury on the road! Good luck with the retest Irvined!

Lifted from the manual which seems to agree with your comment?

Note 1: The tell tale must operate with the operation of the position lamp switch, it may be the illumination of the instruments or a separate lamp of any colour (providing it is not likely to confuse the driver) clearly identified in either a pictogram (see section 33) or in a word format.

Thought I'd heard that, thanks.

If it's the Wilwood Powerlight hand brake calipers then in combination with the Fury modified lever, you will be short of leverage. 1144's will help as will a bit of bedding in. I added a multiplying lever into the tunnel to improve mine. The result is loads of power and a nice action (the standard is a bit short of feel).

Digidash illuminates all the time, it doesn't take in a feed from the position lights, so it doesn't count. I just failed on exactly the same thing (amongst others).
